Top 10 Reasons by Spay or Neuter Your Pet

1. Every day, more than 70,000 puppies and kittens are born in the United States. Most will never find homes.

2. Spayed or neutered animals live about 2-3 years longer than animals that are left intact.

3. Pets usually have fewer problems with aggression or inappropriate urination when they are spayed or neutered.

4. Males will become less restless and likely to leave your property. They will become better pets, and they won't mark household objects with their urine.

5. Spaying or neutering your pet won't make him or her fat. Overfeeding definitely will.

6. Spayed or neutered pets are less likely to develop infections, tumors, and cancer than those that are left intact.

7. Female pets do not need to have a litter or experience the miracle of birth. Pregnancy stresses the body. A female who becomes pregnant during her first heat cycle may have trouble nursing, or give birth to puppies with congenital defects. She is simply too young.

8. Male dogs will not experience a traumatic shock to their masculinity if they are neutered. Male dogs don't experience "masculinity" the way that human males do.

9. Your children will have plenty of other opportunities to interact with puppies and kittens in their lives. Buy a book for them instead.

10. You will have done your part to reduce the number of pets euthanized (more than 20,000 annually in Austin alone) and will have contributed positively to the community.
